Home Remedies For Hives

Hives are described as itchy raised red welts that appear on the surface of the skin. In most cases hives are actually an allergic reaction from medication or foods. Severe cases of hives require immediate medical attention. Hives can also develop from emotional stress, excessive perspiration, autoimmune disease, or other infections such as mononucleosis. Hives can be treated at home with natural home remedies in most cases. Severe cases of hives can also cause the throat to close up from swelling resulting in suffocation. If the hive doesn’t go away within 24 hours you should see your doctor to be checked for thyroid disease.

Home Remedies for Hives

At the first sign of a breakout rinse the skin with cool water. Then massage tea tree oil on the affected areas up to three times daily.

Avoid eating trigger foods such as strawberries, shellfish, tomatoes, and some citrus fruits. If you like any of these foods you can be tested by an allergic to weed out the foods you are allergic to.

Parsley can help prevent hives because it inhibits histamine production. You can add it to carrot juice to improve the taste. Nettle is an herb which also helps to control histamine and heal hives. Take nettle supplements up to 3 times each day.

Wash your skin several times each day with water and vinegar.

Take extra Vitamin C and Vitamin B-12 along with eating a healthy well balanced diet with fruits, vegetables and lean meats,

Evening primrose oil can also help to prevent hives. Take 500 mg 2 or 3 times each day.

Chickweed is an herb that helps to relieve itching. Add a few teaspoons of the dried herb to bathwater.
