Organic means that food and drink or other products are produced and regulated with a certain standard of quality. This means the food was not produced with the use harmful pesticides or herbicides. Organic cosmetics and skin care products are produced from organic ingredients although the guidelines for the cosmetics industry is not as strict as the guidelines for the food industry.

The strict guidelines that apply to organic food does not apply in the cosmetics industry. The natural or organic label doesn't always mean what it says. Manufacturers will label their cosmetics and skin care products as natural or organic. This means that they only have to have at least 1 percent of the ingredients made from natural sources. Our skin is the largest organ on our body and up to 60% of what we put onto our skin can be absorbed directly into our bloodstream. We should be just as careful about what we put on our bodies as what we put in our bodies. The good news is that there are some companies that really do produce organic and natural products and completely exclude the use of petroleum ingredients and chemicals.
